The May round of applications: 6.–31.5.2024 The theme of 2024: Experimentality What kind of forms can experimentality take in visual arts in a time when visual cultures meet the homogenising forces of globalisation and both artists and institutions of art education are facing increasing demands of utility? What can experimentation be like in lens-based arts today? Under the theme of Experimentality, Olga and Vilho Linnamo Foundation announces a new call for applications from artists working with lens-based media. Through this theme, the Foundation aims to support artists’ opportunities to envisage alternative perspectives and modes of working. The underlying idea is that experimentation, arising from the collaboration between imagination and critical thinking, plays a vital part in supporting the diverse potentialities of visual arts. The call is open for professional artists who live and work in Finland and who operate with photography, video, or other lens-based medium. Projects related to photojournalism or documentary films are not included in the call. Applications are welcome from both individual artists and working groups. The grants awarded by the Foundation are either working grants, expenditure grants, or travel grants directly related to the realisation of a particular project. As a rule, the Foundation does not award individual grants exceeding the sum of thirteen thousand (13,000) euros. However, in this year’s thematic call, the Foundation will also award, at most, three individual one-year working grants. The amount of a one-year working grant is twenty-six thousand (26,000) euros. Guidelines for submitting an application are found on the Foundation’s website under the title Grants / For grant applicants. The application period for the 2024 theme call is from May 6th to May 31st, 2024. The application and its required attachments must be submitted through the Foundation’s online grant service, available on the Foundation’s website, at the latest by Friday 31 May 2024, at 23:59 p.m. (UTC +3). Applications submitted after this time or in a form not corresponding with the Foundation’s guidelines will not be reviewed.
