Fostering Finnish Science Capital
Description of the granted funding
Scientific phenomena impacting our lives are often very complex, and the information available on them is confusing. This weakens citizens' possibilities for informed decision making. The multidisciplinary FIN-SCI project responds to this challenge by fostering Finnish science capital, consisting of cultural and social science-related capital and science-related behaviors. Research in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, education and social sciences are combined to create new knowledge on the affective and neurocognitive mechanisms that underlie successful science learning and decision making, and to create science-based methods for formal and informal science learning. FIN-SCI combines research with strong involvement of stakeholders in co-creation activities. These results will be used to create novel paradigms and policy guidelines for science learning and education, in addition to establishing scalable practices for improving science equity.
