Towards vision-based emotion AI (EmotionAI)

Description of the granted funding

Emotions are a central part of human communication and play an important role in everyday social life. New computer vision and machine learning methodology will be investigated for emotion AI, from expressed visual cues, to suppressed and unseen signals, to analyze people's true emotions, bring the emotional intelligence to human-computer interactions and at the same time mask the people's identity. The publicly available datasets and the new multi-modal affective datasets to be acquired will be utilized. The developed new computer vision based framework and methodology could potentially open new horizon in many areas, such as human-centered computing, psychology, social behavior sciences, and data sharing, boosting the highly influential research and accelerating the innovation to real world applications ranging from emotion wellbeing, to e-teaching and security. The research will be carried out in the Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis, University of Oulu.
