Fingerprinting the origin and ascent of magmas through the crust in rift zones (FinMag)

Description of the granted funding

FinMag is a research project in which the response of magmatic systems to changes in the regional lithospheric stress field will be investigated. The project combines geochemistry, structural geology, and geodynamic and magma modelling to determine the spatial and temporal changes in mantle melting and crustal magma ascent during post-glacial rebound (<11 ka) in Central East Iceland. FinMag establishes a sustainable research environment by implementing national, Nordic, European and intercontinental collaborations (LUOMUS, UH, GTK, UTU, UHawaii, UIceland, UBochum). It supports early career researchers and advances fundamental research in Nordic and polar magmatic systems. FinMag contributes to decision-making raising the awareness of the geological diversity and importance of understanding the geological evolution of Earth.
