PACKAGE-HEROES

PACKAGE-HEROES project searches for packaging service solutions, which address simultaneously food protection and the global concern of plastic packaging waste. In 2018, packaging accounted for 46 percent of global plastic waste. Consumers are becoming more environmentally aware, but also changing in terms of how and where food is consumed. These global drivers offer great opportunities for the businesses that can respond the changes in consumer cultures in environmentally responsible ways. Together with business actors, public authorities, NGOs and citizen-consumers we have already co-created solutions to overcome the abovementioned challenges. We have started to envision novel packaging concepts, identify new consumption patterns, investigate scalability of biomaterials and assess environmental impacts. The second stage of the project finalises the work and identifies the policy mixes for the national context to boost the formation of globally competitive business ecosystems.
