Actuation, dynamics, and control of magnetic shape memory material at micro- and nanoscale

Description of the granted funding

Functional materials are at the heart of many microsystems and microactuators. Due to a variety of advantages, Magnetic Shape Memory (MSM) alloys are expected to lead to a “revolution” in mechanical engineering, especially in micro- and nanoscale applications that require fast response and simple construction. The Project concentrates on the most advantageous Ni-Mn-Ga-based MSM alloys and implements unique experimental approaches developed by LUT Material Physics and collaborating partners to study operation principles of MSM devices at micro- and nanoscale. We expect that our results arise interest in several fields of electronics, biomedical, automation and optical research communities.
