Biomimetic nanocellulose-based biohybrids with immobilized photosynthetic co-culture for wastewater remediation and carbon capture - MimetiCell
Description of the granted funding
MimetiCell explores an unprecedented biomimetic approach to improve the performance of wastewater bioremediation and carbon dioxide biocapture. Nanocellulose building blocks extracted from wood and natural photosynthetic communities sourced from Finnish aquatic ecosystems will be co-assembled using osmotic dehydration. Thanks to this approach, the immobilized co-culture in the nanocellulose matrixes mimic the natural intricate network of biochemical and ecological interactions present in nature, leading to better performance and providing more sustainable and environmentally compatible ways to recover contaminated environments.
