Scale dependent mass transport in refractory high entropy alloys

Description of the granted funding

The ultimate goal of SCADEMA is to develop a new framework for describing and analysing elemental motion in multi-principal-element alloys (MPEAs) to allow for their advanced design and engineering. Reaching the goal requires revising the traditional materials science concepts of point and extended defects that break down in random alloys, revealing the scale dependence of their motion in the lattice, and development of new experimental tools for reaching these breakthroughs. This is achieved through an ambitious programme combining synthesis and processing of MPEA structures, experimental characterization of the atomic-scale phenomena, development of new tools for advanced characterization, and multi-scale materials modelling.
