Optical dimension of NMR spectroscopy (Od-NMR)

Description of the granted funding

The aim of the project is to develope the emerging field of nuclear magneto-optic spectroscopy (NMOS) and to combine it with the well-know and widely applied nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) method. Both methods study the magnetic moments of nuclei in atoms, but in NMR the signal is detected by magnetic induction whereas in NMOS we observe the changes in the properties of polarised light beam as it travels through the sample and interactis with nuclear magnetic moments. The observed parameters of these two methods are different, providing complementary data on the properties of molecules and materials. In the project we combine the well-know means of NMR method to manipulate the nuclear spins with the optical detection of the NMOS signal. The outcome of the project would be a new branch of spectroscopic methods applicable in material sciences.
