On-Chip Electronic AI for Neuromorphic Computing (OCEANiC)
Description of the granted funding
Neuromorphic computing emulates the architecture of biological brains. Its main advantages over competing technologies, such as quantum computing, are room temperature operation, scalability and greatly reduced energy consumption. In this project, we will develop neurons and synapses based on GdCaMnO low bandwidth manganite and prepare an on-chip number classificator to demonstrate the functionality of our circuits. The research not only makes computing more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, but it also makes it much faster answering to the ever-increasing needs of the humankind. It thus has the potential to make a major contribution to the daily lives of people as well as work toward the UN Sustainable developmental goals.
