HYDROGEN And TribointErfaces: friction, lubrication and wear of surfaces (HYDROGENATE)

Description of the granted funding

The project HYDROGEN and tribointerfaces: friction, lubrication and wear of surfaces (HYDROGENATE) aims to increase the fundamental understanding of the tribology of contacting surfaces in hydrogen. Special attention will be paid to the interfacial phenomena and the tribochemical reactions occurring in the tribological contacts in hydrogen, resulting in the formation of the tribofilms. Insight into the interfacial phenomena will be obtained by the combination of experimental research and extensive characterisation of materials, surfaces, and the formed tribolayers as well as modelling. Based on the research, design concepts for materials in tribological contacts will be generated to help the selection of safe and reliable material combinations for hydrogen tehnology.
