Crafting learning environments to cultivate students' growth mindset
Description of the granted funding
Growth mindset interventions targeting individual students are gaining popularity in education, but their effects are often short-lived. Limited research has investigated how learning environments can be crafted to create lasting changes in students' mindsets and academic outcomes. Without adequate attention to the learning environments, mindset interventions targeting individuals are unlikely to succeed, as students frequently encounter practices that contradict the growth mindset message. This project aims to address this gap by examining the explicit and implicit ways in which schools, teachers, and peers influence the mindsets of primary school students. It will combine analyses of large-scale survey data with new data collected through classroom observations and social network surveys. The findings will equip educators with concrete strategies to effectively implement growth mindset in their practices.
