Monitoring Of Terrestrial Habitats by Integrating Vegetation Archive Time Series in Europe (MOTIVATE)

Description of the granted funding

This project will improve understandings of reporting on the state and trends of European habitats and plant biodiversity, which will provide a deeper understanding of the pressures and drivers underlying biodiversity changes in Europe. To do this it closely considers ReSurveyEurope, a rich database of information about plant and vegetation life whose data will be used to show assessments of plant biodiversity status and trends linked to particular habitats and species. The project will map out paths for gathering future similar data and will encourage capacity building between seasoned agriculturalists and budding young botanists in the project's various field sites (e.g. Finland, Germany, Austria, Czechia, Portugal and Italy). It proposes to hold workshops with stakeholders to understand how quantitative biodiversity data can be integrated with qualitative data on human perceptions and practices to improve how data on biodiversity monitoring is put into practice by decision-makers.
