High-performance computations in photonics

Description of the granted funding

Photonics, that is, light-based, applications are at the heart of our current and future society. To take advantage of the large freedom in geometry and materials choice, modelling is an efficient approach. In this project at Åbo Akademi University, we develop an ecosystem for high-performance computing within photonics. The goals are ease-of-use and speed-up by orders of magnitude in the calculations. The ecosystem is used for studying two promising future directions in photonics: aperiodic structures for light-management and photon-recycling in solar cells and light-emitting diodes.
