Life course and economic implications of demographic change
Description of the granted funding
The LIFECON project improves our understanding of how the causes and consequences of structural changes in the population manifest in different stages of the life course, including family formation, working life, and health and care needs in later life. In addition, the project provides knowledge on the impact of population changes on the macroeconomy and public finances, and evaluates and recommends actions for adapting to these changes. The research mainly utilizes data based on registers and macro-level information, as well as statistical methods that can reliably assess time trends and relationships between factors. To enhance the impact of the research, interaction is conducted with important stakeholders, including policymakers, expert organizations, and labor market organizations. The aim is that the results of the project help enhance the well-being of citizens, reduce inequality between population groups and generations, and improve the sustainability of the welfare state.
