Engineering food-grade enterosgels for combating obesity (PREFAB)

Description of the granted funding

Engineering food-grade solution for combating obesity (PREFAB) Obesity, a significant health concern, reduces life expectancy, causes millions of annual deaths, and is projected to cost $4.32 trillion globally in 2035. This research introduces a technology for engineering PREFABs, food-grade materials designed to disrupt fat digestion and absorption, addressing obesity comparably to leading anti-obesity medicines without adverse effects. This approach reduces obesity-related deaths and extends healthy life expectancy. The global anti-obesity drugs market is expected to grow to USD 13.26 billion by 2029. Hence, PREFAB's success presents a substantial opportunity for commercialization, benefiting the Finnish economy. I will gather quantitative primary data through experiments at the University of Helsinki, Finland, collaborating with partners in Germany and the Netherlands.
