Impact of sleep apnea on physiological brain pulsations across sleep-wake phases: Unraveling Physiological Dynamics
Description of the granted funding
Sleep apnea significantly impacts public health, with many of affected individuals being unaware of their condition. Research is crucial for gaining a deeper understanding of sleep apnea's pathophysiology, enabling more targeted treatments based on the severity of brain health issues associated with the disease. This study is conducted at the University of Oulu and Oulu University Hospital and focuses on analyzing the brain pulsations of individuals with sleep apnea, comparing them to controls. The research employs various tools, including near-infrared spectroscopy, functional magnetic resonance imaging, clinical tools for sleep apnea diagnostics, and Polar Electro's measurement devices. Furthermore, the study aims to assess the effectiveness of treatments on the brain's physiology by conducting follow-up measurements after treatment initiation. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance our understanding of sleep apnea and improve the precision of treatment strategies.
