Brokering algorithmic futures (BROKERS)

Description of the granted funding

BROKERS demonstrates how incorporating human perspectives improves algorithmic systems and product development. Algorithmic systems are complex, involving data, algorithms, hardware, decision-making processes, and institutional practices. To manage this complexity, BROKERS introduces tools and approaches that facilitate collaboration among project managers, lawyers, data scientists, software engineers, and ethicists. The project focuses on identifying who needs to communicate during development, how these interactions should occur, and their potential impacts. BROKERS emphasizes collaborative problem-solving, illustrating that efficiency encompasses more than just cost-cutting or optimizing machine performance. By engaging a wide range of stakeholders and promoting collaborative design, BROKERS develops effective brokering concepts that can be integrated into existing workflows. The goal is to establish new best practices in algorithmic system development and inspire further testing.
