Impacts of climate, N and P deposition and land use on water as a driver of the greenhouse gases regulatory ecosystem service in headwater catchments
Description of the granted funding
SERVICO2 studies the role of water in headwater catchments' functioning in the regulation of climate-relevant gases (CO2, CH4, N2O, BVOC). It will also assess the social and economic value of these ecosystem services for decision-making. The project is done in 5 work packages which will: 1 improve the consideration of CO2 regulation ecosystem services in policies, conduct social and economic valuations and foster awareness through co-creation with researchers and stakeholders, 2 use long-term data to gain insights into the role of catchments in regulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, 3 develop new and cost-effective methods for high-resolution GHG measurements, 4 conduct field measurements to determine the balance of climate-relevant gases in a network of headwater catchments across Europe in different climate, N-P deposition gradients and land use, 5 communicate project results to policy-makers, environmental managers, authorities, the general public, and the scientific community
