Multifunctional grooved microtubes with genetic patterning for directional nerve cell alignment and inflammation control
Description of the granted funding
This project aims to propose a streamlined technique for fabricating microtubes with both grooved channels for nerve cell alignment and genetic patterning for inflammation control, and to establish an in vitro model for deep insights of nerve repair process based on these microtubes. It is a novel and intelligent research initiative integrating nucleic acid-loaded nanoparticle synthesis with microtube fabrication by utilizing surplus metal ions involved in microtube gelation, paving a brand-new way for loading and delivering nucleic acid drugs. The anticipated outcomes of this project are both foundational and impactful as they not only provide innovative solutions for nerve repair but also offer a preclinical assessment opportunity, setting a benchmark for integrating gene therapy with surgical strategies in broader biomedical regards and promoting the clinical translation of laboratory-developed biomaterials.
