Luminescent ALD/MLD thin films towards FRET-based bioassay application (ALD/MLD-BioA)

Description of the granted funding

We will develop novel immunoassay approaches for diagnostic applications. These approaches are based on so-called FRET (Förster resonance energy transfer) phenomenon to be realized for europium-organic thin-film coatings fabricated on nanoplasmonic substrates using the state-of-the-art gas-phase ALD/MLD (atomic/molecular layer deposition) thin-film technique. The organic component in these thin-film coatings is smartly tailored to enhance the excitation efficiency in the preferred (near)visible wavelength range, while the structure of the nanoplasmonic substrates is designed to enhance the FRET signal. Commercially available fluorophor-labelled SARS-CoV-2 spike antibody is utilized to demonstrate the immunoassay performance of the developed approach.
