Number theory, in particular the theory of prime numbers, has fascinated mankind for centuries if not millennia, and the study of prime numbers by analytic means has a long history. Despite the long history, analytic number theory is a very active field and there have recently been many great breakthroughs. Number theory has also connections to many branches of mathematics and the quest for understanding problems in number theory has stimulated much progress in different areas of mathematics. During the project we plan to continue investigations on analytic number theory together with our collaborators. In particular we will work on two central topics --- questions related to prime numbers and questions related to zeros of the Riemann zeta function.
