Sustainable Energy Landscapes of Hydrogen Valleys

Description of the granted funding

The aim of this project is to develop novel method of analysis and design to support sustainable development of hydrogen valleys. A hydrogen valley is a defined area where the entire hydrogen value chain is located, from wind energy production, hydrogen production by electrolysis, further processing into electric fuels, biogenic carbon dioxide production, district heating, energy transmission and storage. The project provides understanding on how much renewable energy and hydrogen production can be sustainably implemented in the area under consideration, based on ecological, social, visual, cultural aspects. Furthermore, the project sheds light on changing landscape values, not only negative but also new positive landscape impacts. The project will be carried out by researchers in engineering, natural, and social sciences, and landscape architecture.
