Hydrogen Embrittlement Resistant Alloys: from atomistic understanding to structural design (H-ERA)
Acronym
H-ERA
Description of the granted funding
Hydrogen economy has the potential to play a key role in a clean, secure, and affordable energy future in Finland and in Europe: it enables the integration of renewables to the energy production, generates resilience, and creates links between different industrial sectors. Hydrogen storage and transport is not without risks, and hydrogen is known to cause embrittlement to metals. The mechanisms of hydrogen embrittelement are not fully known and clarifying these mechanisms are the main objective of the H-ERA project. The work combines seamlessly state-of-the-art computational and experimental methods including collaboration with the world-leading laboratories. The results will be applied to design and demonstrate a microstructure that does not suffer from hydrogen embrittlement.
