The democratic epistemic capacities in the age of algorithms
Description of the granted funding
Epistemic rights and democratic epistemic capacity are essential in maintaining trust and security in society. Their flourishing requires committing to the rights of individuals and groups to participate in knowledge production, defending epistemic institutions in society, and a capacity to predict challenges related to the changing information environment. Multidisciplinary DECA supports and addresses epistemic capacity at three levels: individual, institutional and infrastructural. The project is based on social sciences (social psychology, communication studies and youth studies), law studies and computer science and collaboration with diverse stakeholders. DECA develops new conceptualisations, collaborations and methods to support democratic epistemic capacity in the era of polycrisis and provides new insights into eroding epistemic rights and trust in society.
