From Individuals to Populations: Adaptation in White-tailed Eagles

Description of the granted funding

This project studies how young white-tailed eagles choose where to live. We want to find out if these choices are influenced by their genes ("nature") or their early experiences ("nurture"). Using GPS trackers and special accelerometer tags, we will follow their movements in Finland and across northern Europe. We will combine existing data with newly collected data to learn how they adapt to their surroundings and how habitat choices affect populations. This research will help protect eagles by improving habitat restoration and reintroduction efforts. We work with the Swiss Ornithological Institute, the Osprey-foundation and other partners to ensure strong data and methods. This project will help us understand and protect wildlife in a changing world.
