Security and trust in the age of algorithms SHIELD

Description of the granted funding

The SHIELD program focuses on the impacts of information technology and digitalisation — particularly artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems — on society, as well as on rights and opportunities of people in a rapidly evolving environment. SHIELD aims to generate understanding of the effects of technological change on societal security and trust, including trust in other people, technology, the welfare state, and public and private services. SHIELD promotes public discussion related to artificial intelligence and provides research-based results and tools to support it. Artificial intelligence and algorithmic systems affect all sectors of society and governance. SHIELD projects collaborate with various stakeholders, including teachers and students in schools; journalists and social media; immigrants and minorities; healthcare and social work professionals; and policymakers and decision-makers.
