Multimodal Performances of Nordic Nature and Climate Change in Women's Popular Music Performances, 2018–2025 (NorEcoPop)
Description of the granted funding
This four-year research project examines Nordic women artists and their multimodal musical performances centered on ecological topics like sustainability, climate change, and feminist spiritualism. The focus is on women in the Nordic pop music scene, which has gained significant global attention. The aim is to highlight how these musicians use their voices and bodies on various platforms to raise awareness and advocate for ecological sustainability. The project combines ideas from popular music studies, environmental humanism, ecofeminism, and media studies. A key goal is to explore the relationship between (queer) womanhood, the body, voice, and nature in music while addressing overlooked intersectional perspectives. The project will produce five research articles focused on traditional and modern views of Nordic nature.
