Political, Ideological and Affective Gender Polarisation among Young People

Description of the granted funding

This research project explores the growing political divide between young men and women, particularly in Finland and Hungary. Young women increasingly lean towards left-wing and environmental views, while young men are drawn to conservative, right-wing ideas. Driven largely by social media and debates on identity, race, gender, and climate, this divide is analyzed through an interdisciplinary approach linking emotions, social identity, and political messaging. By examining data from interviews, online political mobilisation and social media interactions, the project aims to shed new light on how and why gender-based polarization deepens among youth, and how it could be combatted.
