Transforming Immigration Systems for Future Skills
Description of the granted funding
In this transdisciplinary (economics, technology, education and migration studies) proposal, we study the immigration system and its labor market relevance by (1) analyzing transitions in and between competence-based and human rights-based migration systems; (2) analyzing the capabilities of the immigration system to facilitate transitions; and (3) designing and following up interventions on these transitions. We ask: What is the capacity of the immigration system to integrate migrants into the Finnish value system(s) in a sustainable and equitable way, and how can this system be improved? A perspective on AI as phenomena that change the dynamics of the labour market and as a tool to be leveraged and analyzed cuts cross the project. We consider the ethical aspects of AI design and usage throughout various transitions and conduct data and AI driven interventions to find solutions that foster a more sustainable migration system for the Finnish labour market.
