From lab to plates - co-creating and scaling up plant cell cultures for food manufacturing

Description of the granted funding

Plant cell culture (PCC) technology is a novel method for producing food ingredients with good nutrient content and in a sustainable manner. The Cell2Food project aims to advance the research and development on PCCs by co-creating cell culture-based food prototypes with stakeholders and study factors influencing consumers' acceptance and societal expectations for this new food source. The project includes several activities such as understanding consumer and stakeholder expectations, co-creating business models and value chains, raising awareness through events, co-creating cell-based food prototypes, and evaluating their nutritional quality. Collaboration in Cell2Food aims to create a meaningful societal impact by involving food system actors and consumers. The project has collaborators in Finland and Brazil, targeting the commercialization of PCC technology, promoting cultural shifts towards cellular agriculture, and improving overall food system sustainability.
