Biodegradable and Environment-Adaptive Flyers (BioDrones)

Description of the granted funding

Today’s world faces a triple crisis: climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. Effective monitoring of natural ecosystems is essential for implementing sustainable strategies to address these challenges. BioDrones proposes a novel approach for the large-scale deployment of sensors and wind-assisted sowing, using fully sustainable polymers, powered solely by wind, and capable of autonomous decision-making. The project has two main goals. First, to develop a prototype that can respond autonomously to light and/or humidity and land through controlled disintegration. Second, to design a flyer that can be steered using illumination patterns, for example, the robot could self-navigate through the sky by continuously moving toward the sun.
