Renewing Credibility in Finance: Establishing Reproducible Research at Scale

Description of the granted funding

Scientific findings in academic finance shape policies, investments, and everyday decisions. Yet many results in the social sciences cannot be reproduced or replicated when other researchers repeat the analysis. Despite its broad societal impact, finance research has largely avoided such scrutiny. This project systematically examines the reliability of published finance research by testing whether results hold when the same questions are studied with different methods and data. Through large collaborative replication workshops involving many independent analysts and the development of open verification tools, the project identifies which findings are robust and which are not. The project will provide shared standards, training materials, and an online database of verified results. By strengthening transparency and reliability in financial research, these efforts help ensure that economic and policy decisions can be based on sound scientific evidence.
