Transnational and Ecological Perspectives on Nordic Soundtracks

Description of the granted funding

Transnational and Ecological Perspectives on Nordic Soundtracks is a four-year research project that will shed new light on Nordic soundtrack practices with a dual focus on transnationalism and ecology. The project covers a wide range of screen practices and responds to the growing global interest in Nordic screen practices by illuminating the role of soundtracks in producing and contesting cultural meanings. Social change and cultural memory are woven into the research design as both transnationalism and ecology imply diachronic processes in which the present and possible futures are seen through the lens of the past. The project asks how do Nordic soundtracks mediate, modulate, and amplify ideas about transnationalism and ecology? The project combines cultural analysis, close readings and attention to creative practices to provide richly interconnected accounts of multimodal phenomena with a view to influencing perceptions and public policy concerning timely and important phenomena.
