Integrated Carbon Observation System

Abbreviation

ICOS Suomi

Infrastructure description

ICOS is a distributed European research infrastructure consisting of national measurement stations and a European top-level organisation coordinating its activities. This distributed network of measurement stations includes more than 100 atmospheric, ecosystem and marine observatories around Europe. The measurement stations measure levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, as well as the carbon and nitrogen cycle within ecosystems and ocean-atmosphere coupling. ICOS-Finland’s national operations include the maintenance of the Finnish station network and greenhouse gas measurements. Finland’s observatory network includes boreal and sub-arctic measurement stations. ICOS provides long-term, harmonized and precise greenhouse gas data for science and monitoring of GHG emissions. The stations are divided INTO infra.three classes, Class 1, Class 2, and Associate sites. The data from all these stations are quality-controlled with the same very strict criteria. Class I stations measure the most parameters. Data and map services are distributed freely from our web service Carbon Portal.
