CowBhave: a basic low-cost open-source automated monitoring system for discrimination of dairy cow behavioural activities
Starting year
2018
End year
2021
Objectives of the project
The main objective of the proposed research project is the design and development of a basic low-cost automated monitoring system based on accelerometers and open-source software tools with the aim of discriminating dairy cow behavioural activities. This novel low-cost open-source automated monitoring system, named CowBhave hereafter, will be offered as a free support to the dairy farmers across Europe. The information concerning the behavioural activity of the animals would be supplemented with information obtained from other control systems (microclimatic conditions, milk production, milk quality, water consumption, etc.) for more complete and timely detection of anomalous situations. A dissemination and exploitation plan will be implemented to reach the main stakeholders and end users, as well as of course the scientific community.
