Tailings Slag Mortar preview
Description
The prism-like samples with dimension of 2 cm x 2 cm x 8 cm are series of one-part alkali-activated mortars synergy of mine tailings (MT) with blast furnace slag (BFS). The mineralogy of mine tailings is muscovite, chlorite, gypsym, albite, sphalerite, quartz, and pyrite. BFS is an almost amorphous by-product from steel-making industry. The mortar samples are prepared with substituting BFS with MT from 10 % to 50 %, and the ratio of precursor and solid sodium silicate was kept constant at 9:1. The optimal water/binder and sand/binder weight ratio were fixed at 0.35 and 2, respectively. A and B are parallel sample series with the number denoting amount of MT substitution. Results are included in Niu, H., Helser, J., Corfe, IJ., Kuva, J., Butcher, AR., Cappuyns, V., Kinnunen, P., Illikainen, M., 2022.
