Childhood Experiences of Alienation from Another Parent 2024

Description

The data consists of writings in which respondents describe their experiences of parental alienation during childhood. The data was collected through an open writing invitation which sought to identify respondents who had experienced parental separation and alienation by one parent in their childhood. The data was originally collected for a master's thesis on the experiences of adult respondents of alienation by their own parents, and the consequences of this alienation on their later life and on the relationship between the respondent and the parent. A number of support questions were provided in the writing invitation to help with the writing process. For example, they asked what the alienation was like, how the respondent felt it had affected him/herself and his/her life, or the relationship between the respondent and his/her parents. However, the writing was allowed to be completely free-form and to include issues that the respondent felt were important. Background information included gender, age group and age at the time of the parents' separation. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD.
