Inclusion as ownership in participatory budgeting: facilitators' interpretations of public engagement of children and youth
Description
The data presented herein were collected under the auspices of the project no. 2021/41/B/HS5/02899, funded by the National Science Centre, Poland. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews conducted in Lublin, Poland, and Tampere, Finland, with key facilitators of participatory budgeting (PB). These facilitators included civil servants, schoolteachers in both cities, and NGO personnel in Lublin. The interviewees were pivotal actors in various stages of the PB process, comprising civil servants from departments responsible for structuring PB procedures, as well as teachers and NGO workers involved in the planning and implementation of PB initiatives. All interviews were systematically recorded, transcribed, and subjected to thematic analysis. The data were categorized using key themes, such as objectives, motivations, and the significance of PB. The results derived from this analysis are documented in the scientific article: Lehtonen, P., & Radzik-Maruszak, K. (2024). Inclusion as ownership in participatory budgeting: facilitators’ interpretations of public engagement of children and youth. Critical Policy Studies, 18(1), 73-91.
