Remotely sensed measurements and predictions of aquatic macrophyte coverage in Pallasjärvi catchment
Description
This dataset contains 1) drone-based measurements of aquatic macrophyte coverage in five lakes in the Pallasjärvi catchment in Northern Finland, presented in a 10x10 m2 grid, and 2) predicted maps of aquatic macrophyte coverage in all lakes within the catchment. Both data are grouped into 1) total vegetation coverage, 2) coverage by growth form, i.e., either floating-leaved or emergent vegetation, and 3) coverage by species or genus, namely Carex spp., Equisetum fluviatile, Nuphar lutea, or Sparganium spp. Prediction maps are supplied as generated by gradient boosting machines using as inputs 1) Sentinel-1 data only, 2) Sentinel-2 data only, and 3) multi-sensor data, i.e., Sentinel-1 and 2. Details about coverage measurements from drone data, as well as satellite model construction and accuracy, are available in the accompanying article.
2025-08-20 Update: redundant versions of prediction maps were removed for revised version of the dataset. The previous version will be removed.
