JYFL-ACCLAB-NSG002 Producing radioactive isotopes with 84Kr on 92,96Mo fusion-evaporation reaction for the Kiihdytin Hiukkasen high-school competition
Description
The experiment was part of Kiihdytin Hiukkasen 2024 competition for high-school physics classes.
The experimental and educational goals were to observe different fusion evaporation products
created in 84Kr+92Mo fusion-evaporation reaction, measure a half life for 172Pt produced in 4n
channel and observe the prompt gamma transitions of it by using the recoil decay tagging method.
Additional goal was to see if a possible new isomers do exist in this region. The experiment run
smoothly and different alpha decaying fusion products were observed as well as multiple different
yrast bands. Some hints of the first experimental observation of the de-excitation of 169W isomer
were seen during the beam time.
The experiment was continued with the heavier 96Mo target. The motivation was to measure the
absolute transmission of MARA by using the strongest fusion evaporation channels. The data
collection was successful for this purpose.
