Termite mound monitoring 2021-2023
Description
This dataset includes:
(i) A photographic record (2230 photos; .raw and .jpg formats) of studied termite mounds (Macrotermes michaelseni) and their surrounding vegetation, collected monthly throughout the monitoring period.
(ii) Measurements of internal mound temperature, external air temperature, wind conditions (direction, average speed, gusts), and cloud cover at the time of observation.
(iii) Continuous internal mound temperature recordings collected every four hours using iButton Thermochron dataloggers.
(iv) Soil moisture and soil temperature data (using TOMST, TMS-4 datalogger) recorded every 15 minutes at the monitoring locations.
Data was collected at one-month intervals over a period of 25 months (June 2021-June 2023) in Taita-Taveta County, Kenya. Data originates from three different habitats (open grassland, wooded grassland, bushland) where a total of nine termite mounds were studied.
