Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 (NFBC1966) is a prospective birth cohort started in 1965. At baseline all mothers with expected dates of delivery between the 1st of January and the 31st of December 1966 were recruited from the two northernmost provinces in Finland. NFBC1966 study population comprised 12,231 children and their parents. The follow-ups have been conducted at four different time points i.e. at 1, 14, 31 and 46 years of age. Collected data include prenatal and early life measurements, information on motor, social, psychological and mental development in childhood. In adulthood data has been collected on social background, lifestyle, medication, diagnosed diseases, organ-specific and psychiatric symptoms, workload and occupational health, economy, personal traits, functioning, quality of life, use of health services, and family history of diseases.
