The VIKKE assessment tool https://viittomatesti.cc.jyu.fi/ is a web-based tool developed by the University of Jyväskylä's VIKKE project. The assessment tool includes five different assessment materials that can be used to evaluate children's Finnish Sign Language skills in different aspects of language abilities, such as receptive and productive vocabulary skills, grammatical skills and narrative skills. The assessment tool also includes a parental questionnaire to examine the characteristics of their children's linguistic environment.

The questionnaire was used to investigate e.g., the birth order of the child in the family, the parents' assessment of their own language skills in different languages and the child's proficiency in Finnish Sign Language, the child's language contacts with different language users, the amount of language input and the possibility of using different languages in the home environment and outside the home. The aim of the study is to examine the characteristics of the linguistic environment of children acquiring Finnish Sign Language.
