Dataset of Urbanisation drives inter- and intraspecific variation in flight-related morphological traits of aquatic insects at different scales.

Description

Dataset utilised in the publication Liao W & Lin H (Accepted) Urbanisation drives inter- and intraspecific variation in flight-related morphological traits of aquatic insects at different scales. Insect Conservation and Diversity. https://doi.org/10.1111/icad.12703 This metadata has three datasets of morphological traits of three diving beetle (Dytiscidae) species, Acilius canaliculatus, Hydaticus seminiger, and Ilybius ater. The file names are "Acilius_canaliculatus.csv", "Hydaticus_seminiger.csv", and "Ilybius_ater.csv". The datasets include seven morphological traits: total length without head (TL_without_head_mm), pronotumn length (Pronotum_length_mm), elytron length (Elytron_length_mm), total wing length (Total_wing_length_mm),the wing length from the base to the bending zone (Wing_length_I_mm), the wing length from the bending zone to the wing tip (Wing_length_II_mm), and area of the hind wing (Wing_area_cm2). The unit of the first six traits is millimitre, and the unit of the wing area is square centimetre. The datasets include specimen information: Sampling pond, sampling year, sex of the specimen, the presence or absence of fish in the sampling pond. Urbanisation of each sampling pond at nine different radii: 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 500m, 600m, 800m, 1000m, and 1200m. The urbanisation was calculated as the area of impermeable surfaces within a buffer divided by the total area of a buffer and multiplied by 100%. A buffer was calculated from the edge of a pond. The information of impermeable surfaces were extracted from HSY, 2018, 2020. HYS. 2018, 2020. Helsinki metropolitan area land cover dataset. Accessed 29 Oct 2021. https://www.hsy.fi/en/environmental-information/open-data/avoin-data---sivut/helsinki-metropolitan-area-land-cover-dataset/
