The modelled reproduction habitats of pike in the southwestern and southern coastal areas of Finland / VELMU
Description
The modelled map shows the reproduction probability of pike in the southwestern and southern coastal areas of Finland. The distribution of the reproduction habitats was modelled with a logistic regression model. The model was based on larval fish field survey data collected in years 2004-2010 from 200 survey sites in the VELMU project. Vegetation (Phragmites reed belt locations from satellite images) and interpolated spring-time Secchi depth (model based on N=788, validation: RMSE<1.08 m, N=203) were used as predictors in the model. The spatial resolution of the map is 25 meters and it is in raster format (GeoTIFF). The map is suitable for general description of the extent of the reproduction habitats of pike and for spatial planning of marine and coastal areas. The modelled map gives an overview of the extent and spatial distribution of the reproduction areas of pike in the Finnish southwest and southern coastal areas. It can be used for marine spatial planning of the coastal zone. The map is not suitable for local reproduction estimates.
