Linguistic Integration of Highly Educated Migrants to Finland 2024
Description
The data covers the experiences of highly educated migrants regarding linguistic integration in Finland. The data was originally collected for a master's thesis. First, respondents were asked whether they had participated in integration training after arriving in Finland. They were also asked to assess whether they found the integration training useful and, if they had not participated in integration training, to assess whether they believed it would be useful. After this, they were asked what kind of integration training they thought would be useful. They were also asked whether they had studied Finnish before arriving in Finland and whether they were currently studying Finnish and, if so, how. They were also asked to assess how difficult they found studying Finnish. Next, respondents were asked to assess their own linguistic integration and how fluent their Finnish language skills are in different situations. They were also asked how their Finnish language skills affect their perceived job satisfaction and career advancement aspirations. Next, they were asked how satisfied they were with their life in Finland and whether a better knowledge and skill level in Finnish, Finnish culture, and working life would affect their perceived satisfaction. Finally, they were asked whether they intended to apply for Finnish citizenship and whether they were considering moving to another country and how soon. Background variables include age, gender, native language, educational level, reason for moving to Finland, employment status, length of residence in Finland, and proficiency in Finnish.
