Baltic Fossils preview

Description

The analysed samples are Baltic Early Paleozoic (ca 420-485 million years old) sedimentary rocks that include burrows and borings made by various marine organisms. X-ray CT scanning enabled revealing the complex 3D architecture of these trace fossils within carbonate rocks, which facilitated understanding their taxonomy and behavior of the trace-makers. The best results were obtained when the trace fossils had pyritic impregnation or carbonate infill within organic-rich kukersite oil shale. The study results were used in PhD dissertation of Ursula Toom. Preview of PAS-dataset https://doi.org/10.23729/59190d89-ae0c-459f-bc1f-a3b408b9d71a
