People & Parliament: A Comparative Interface on Parliamentary Debates in Northwest Europe since the Nineteenth Century
Description
A comparative interface on parliamentary discourse currently including plenary debates from Britain (1803-2021), Sweden (1809-2022), The Netherlands (1815-2022), Norway (1814-2016), Denmark (1849-2016), Finland (1863-2022), Germany (1867-2021), France (1881-2022), Canada (1901-2022), Ireland (1920-2020). The state of the available data for these parliaments varies widely, from datasets in almost immediately research-ready state to ones that need extensive processing. We depend on national datasets and have not been able to correct OCR errors or enrich metadata. Available tools in the interface include: Keywords in context; Visualisations: absolute and relative frequencies and neighbouring words (up to 100 most common bigrams, trigrams or fourgrams both ways); Word models for related terms mostly in 20-year slices and comparison of similarity of context between terms. Accesses are currently awarded to research partners, except for the Dutch dataset. Long-term maintenance and public launch are under investigation, depending on publication rights, development/maintenance costs and available resources.
