Neocarbonenergy
Description
Most important for an energy system mainly based on intermittent renewable energy sources, such as solar photovoltaics and wind energy, is its stable functioning for all hours of an entire year and all events. The underlying energy system model of Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT), developed within the Neo-Carbon Energy project (financed by Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation), takes the hourly constraint into special focus.
The full hourly resolution for the selected geographic dimension and system components is visualized dynamically in a chronological flow for the assumed year 2030 and a hypothetical 100% renewable energy system in the power sector.
The electricity demand is covered in all hours of the year. The system is optimized for least cost of a 100% renewable based electricity system. Other energy sectors, such as heat, mobility, desalination and non-energetic industrial demand are part of a future update.
